Honeywell (NYSE: HON) and LG Electronics (KRX: LG) recently announced a collaboration aimed at developing and showcasing innovative automotive software technology. The partnership includes a memorandum of understanding focused on infrastructure solutions designed to tackle security risks associated with the advancement of vehicle networking technologies. In early January, the two companies demonstrated their joint network security solution at the 2018 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, followed by another demonstration at the Detroit 2018 North American International Auto Show later that month.
This collaboration provides automakers with a next-generation network security system for in-vehicle communication and the expanding external connectivity via cellular and satellite networks. The partnership addresses the full spectrum of cybersecurity needs within the automotive industry, from protecting individual gateways to monitoring threats across large vehicle fleets.
By combining LGE’s expertise in in-vehicle communication modules with Honeywell’s intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS), the solution offers comprehensive protection against cyber threats. LGE focuses on safeguarding internal communication components, while Honeywell’s IDPS technology, supported by its cloud-based security operations center, detects and neutralizes attacks entering through various channels.
The collaborative security solution ensures vehicle safety by identifying and verifying software commands and data transmitted over the network. LGE’s electronic gateway, telematics control unit (TCU), and electronic control units (ECUs) are capable of detecting and reporting abnormal conditions caused by mechanical failures or deliberate attacks. Honeywell’s network security software monitors anomalies in the vehicle's internal communication, while the cloud-based security operations center collects and analyzes real-time or scheduled data from vehicles to detect potential threats.
Honeywell, with over 60 years of experience as a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier, integrates its deep knowledge of industrial safety into its automotive software. This enables real-time diagnostics, improving vehicle reliability and reducing warranty costs by up to 5%.
LGE aims to leverage its consumer electronics expertise to become a key player in automotive electrification. As one of the fastest-growing segments of the company, LGE’s automotive parts business is expected to play a crucial role in future growth. With extensive experience in mobile communications and home appliances, LGE is optimizing its network security offerings.
“We recognize the growing importance of vehicle network security as cars become more connected,†said a representative from LGE. “We are investing heavily in both hardware and software to provide our OEM customers with secure products. By integrating Honeywell’s security software with our own solutions, we aim to deliver next-generation network security that protects the entire vehicle, from internal networks to ECU/TCU systems.â€
“With over a dozen confirmed attackable vehicles and the number increasing rapidly, we’re committed to supporting OEMs with robust cybersecurity solutions,†added a Honeywell representative. “Through partnerships like this with LGE, we are working to simplify integration and deliver comprehensive security for connected and autonomous vehicles.â€
Metal Halide Light Tower
Metal Halide Light Tower
A metal halide light tower is a portable lighting system that uses metal halide lamps to provide bright and efficient illumination in outdoor or construction sites. It consists of a tall tower with multiple metal halide lamps mounted at the top, along with a generator or power source to provide electricity.
The metal halide light tower is typically mounted on a trailer or skid for easy transportation and positioning. The tower can be extended to a certain height to provide wide-area coverage and can be rotated or tilted to adjust the direction of the light. Some light towers also have telescopic masts for additional height adjustment.
Metal halide light towers are commonly used in construction sites, roadworks, mining operations, outdoor events, and emergency response situations. They provide powerful and uniform lighting, allowing workers to safely and efficiently perform their tasks during nighttime or low-light conditions.
In recent years, LED light towers have become increasingly popular due to their energy efficiency and longer lifespan. However, metal halide light towers are still widely used in many industries due to their affordability and high-quality light output.
