The person familiar with the matter said that Samsung's smartphone sales target for this year is 350 million units, but because the Galaxy S9 sales were lower than expected, coupled with the sluggish business in the Chinese market, this target has been difficult to achieve.
Initially, Samsung's smartphone sales target this year was 320 million. However, due to the strong booking momentum of the Galaxy S9 in the first quarter of this year, Samsung was prompted to increase its annual sales target to 350 million units.
Due to the saturation of the global smartphone market and the rise of Chinese manufacturers, both Samsung and Apple have experienced sluggish market demand in recent years.
In addition, the sales target of 350 million units is also higher than the actual mobile phone sales three years ago. Research firm Strategy AnalyTIcs data shows that in 2015, Samsung's smartphone sales were 319.7 million units, 2016 was 309.4 million units, 2017 was 319.8 million units, and about 78 million units in the first quarter of this year.
In the Chinese market, Samsung's mobile phone market share in 2013 was as high as nearly 20%, but last year it fell to less than 1%.
