Silicon Labs Introduces New Optical Biometric Sensor Si117x

Silicon Labs (also known as "core technology") has introduced a series of optical biometric sensors that provide advanced heart rate monitoring (HRM) and electrocardiogram (ECG) capabilities for a variety of wearable fitness and health products. The ultra-low power consumption, high sensitivity and excellent integration of the new Si117x sensor module make it ideal for smart watches, wrists, patch-type devices or other wearable devices that require long battery life and higher arrhythm accuracy. To simplify development and reduce time to market, Silicon Labs offers a complete sensing solution that integrates the Si117x sensor module, heart rhythm algorithm, Wireless Gecko SoC with Bluetooth double-click to view the original connection, and includes sample code, sample projects and ease of use. Wrist development kit.

The Si117x sensor provides enhanced rhythm measurement accuracy for a better end-user experience. These sensors provide fast sampling, high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR > 100dB), and the ability to eliminate ambient noise and erroneous data filtering, even in the face of different physiological characteristics, skin color and tattoos, still produce high quality signals. It's easier to track your heart rate. A more accurate view of the ECG waveform enables biometrics to go beyond traditional heart rhythm monitoring, including heart rate variability (HRV), stress analysis, and pulse volume.

By combining ECG measurements with optical heart rate measurement, the Si117x sensor allows developers to open up new potential biometrics for wearable devices. The ECG waveform is the gold standard for cardiac status measurement, and the Si117x sensor brings this feature to wrist wearables in a cost-effective manner. By simultaneously measuring on the same device, the Si117x sensor allows developers to combine biometrics with optical photoplethysmogram (PPG) measurements to obtain more valuable physiological parameters.

The Si117x sensor supports Silicon Labs' proprietary motion-compensated rhythm algorithm, which is optimized for wrist measurements and runs on EFM32 Gecko MCUs and EFR32 Wireless Gecko SoCs that support Bluetooth low energy. This integration enables system-level power and performance optimization and reduces the time developers spend adding heart rate monitoring to their wearable designs.

Price and availability

The Si117x sensor samples and modules are ready for mass production and are available in a 3.7mm × 7mm 28-pin LGA package. Silicon Labs also offers the Si118x optical biometric sensor chip with integrated photodiode in a transparent 3mm x 3mm QFN package. To simplify development and performance evaluation, Silicon Labs offers a variety of wrist ECG and PPG development kits, a Bluetooth-enabled rhythm watch, and an Android-based Triple Heart app that captures data from multiple devices.
