NXP Introduces Compact Deep Dimmable SSL2129A LED Lighting Control IC

On October 29, NXP Semiconductors unveiled the SSL2129A, a high-efficiency GreenChipTM controller IC for 4 to 25 W compact deep dimmable LED lamps. The SSL2129A offers best-in-class dimming performance based on per-watt compatibility for single-stage mainstream LED driver applications.

This convenient method also keeps the application compact (GU10/PAR16) and cost-effective with a high power factor (PF) greater than 0.9. Designed for use with external MOSFETs, the device can be configured for buck (non-isolated) or flyback (isolated) topologies for mains supply voltages of 100 to 120V and 230V. NXP will present its latest SSL driver chip green chip series at the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Booth No. 5B-C12).

Evaluate per watt compatibility

More than 600 dimmers have been sold worldwide, and almost all products were originally designed for incandescent lamps. For lighting product manufacturers, the use of various dimmers to design reliable and stable dimmable LED lights remains a significant challenge. At the same time, as the efficiency of LEDs (the lumens per watt) is steadily increasing and the input power required to improve LED lamps is decreasing, this presents an additional problem: at present, LED lamps for commercial use need to replace 7 W. W incandescent lamp, replacing 60 W incandescent lamp with 8.7 W. But below 10 W, maintaining the compatibility of the dimmer becomes extraordinarily difficult.

To solve this problem, NXP has developed a “per-watt compatibility” scoring method that will absorb the mains input power consumption and stability (the ability to avoid visual interference such as flicker, shimmer and flash) and controllable The indicators of compatibility (the user can control and reduce the degree of light output, including the dimming range of the lighting level, control room and steps) are taken into consideration. The SSL2129A demonstrates excellent dimming compatibility based on this parameter. NXP will later publish a white paper that provides an assessment of the compatibility of dimmers per watt.
