Nano solar cells will bring revolutionary changes to the photovoltaic industry

Jerry Mimandi, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Maryland, and graduate students Yunlu Xu and Tao Gong designed a new type of nano-solar cell that they expect to outperform 40% more efficiently than conventional equipment. Xu, Gong, and Mundy published their study on the efficiency limits of Shockley Quayser for nanostructured solar cells in the journal Science Report, an online, publicly available journal of Nature Press. The Shockley Quayse efficiency limit is the limit of solar energy conversion efficiency that can be achieved with a particular material and is a standard against new photovoltaic technologies.
