21ic News Corp. has introduced the highly flexible 8-channel video/audio decoder CX25828 designed for surveillance applications. The CX25828 has eight high quality NTSC/PAL video decoders, nine audio ADCs and one audio digital to analog converter (Digital-to-Analog Converter) for audio playback or two-way communication applications.

The new System-on-Chip (SoC) is one of Conexant's newest product line designed for advanced high-capacity DVR video surveillance products that capture and record multiple video streams simultaneously. In addition, Conexant has an industrial temperature grade version that is well suited for the growing automotive market.
Xingmai Technology, a supplier of safety industrial equipment from Hangzhou, China, selected Conexant's CX25828 video/audio decoder for its CIF and D1 series of CCTV DVR video surveillance systems. These designs of Xiongmai Company utilize HiSilicon's mainstream codec Hi3515. Chen Jinsheng, general manager of Xiongmai, said: "Conexant has expertise in video technology and systems, and its video decoder is very suitable for our security monitoring system. Our goal is to reduce the overall system cost and in our system. Improving the overall video quality, the CX25828 helps us achieve this goal. The chip's enhanced video processor and comb filter deliver high-quality video with a flexible video/audio interface that enables DVRs with a variety of codec SoCs. Implementation is cost effective."
Conexant's CX25828 is designed with 10-bit ADC and 5-line comb filter for optimal color separation to produce the highest quality digital video output with minimal noise and cross-brightness/cross-color artifacts. In addition, the decoder is optimized to lock the input through a low signal level and line-locked camera, both of which can be found in video surveillance systems. With optimal flexibility, the CX25828 provides bidirectional bridging of video and audio data and is connected via GPIO and I2C interfaces.

The CX25828 supports the standard ITU-R BT.656 digital video format with byte-multiplexed outputs of 27, 54 and 108 MHz. Each video decoder includes a motion detection and image analysis engine that can be used to notify the primary controller to start recording or wake up sleep during the detection.
