BC Canada Establishes Entrepreneurial Technology Center to Develop VR/AR/MR

Recently, the British Columbia Association of Science and Technology unveiled an exciting new initiative: a state-of-the-art technology hub in Vancouver called “The Cube.” This center will focus on virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), offering a space for innovation, collaboration, and learning.

The Cube spans 6,000 square feet (approximately 557 square meters) and is designed to support startups, entrepreneurs, and corporate innovators at every stage of their journey. Members will have access to cutting-edge equipment, participate in industry-focused workshops, and receive expert guidance to help bring their ideas to life. It's more than just a workspace—it’s a community where creativity meets technology.

Bill Tam, CEO of the BC Association for Science and Technology, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “By providing tools, resources, and a supportive environment, we aim to accelerate the growth of AR, VR, and MR in British Columbia. We want The Cube to become one of the top innovation ecosystems in the region, helping local companies gain global recognition.”

The center has already attracted strong backing from major players in the tech industry. Sponsors include the National Research Council of Canada, Microsoft, AMPD Games Technology, Finger Food Studios, Archiact, and Work at Play. With this support, The Cube offers a fully equipped open workspace with 50 stations, private offices, advanced VR/AR/MR gear, and even a custom green screen room for immersive media production.

Edoardo De Martin, General Manager of Microsoft Vancouver, shared his vision: “We believe AR, VR, and MR will transform traditional industries in British Columbia over the next few years. The Cube is a great example of how collaboration between businesses, research institutions, and government can drive real innovation and create new opportunities for the future.”

This development marks a significant step forward in Vancouver’s growing tech ecosystem. As more companies and creators join The Cube, it's clear that the city is positioning itself as a key player in the global AR/VR/MR landscape.
