As 5G commercialization is still on the horizon, the deployment of 5G networks continues to face various challenges. For Orange, this presents a significant opportunity and challenge. According to recent reports, Orange Group has officially partnered with ZTE to advance 5G deployment. This collaboration aims to reduce the impact of current network infrastructure in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, while showcasing the full potential of 5G technology—such as ultra-low latency and network slicing.
Today, Orange Group and ZTE signed a formal 5G cooperation agreement, focusing on joint development and application cases to drive 5G innovation forward.
Under the partnership, ZTE and Orange will conduct extensive testing and evaluation of key 5G technologies, including:
- Testing of multi-site 5G standalone networking architecture in Europe during the second half of 2018
- Advanced functional verification of the 5G core network, such as high flexibility and cloud-native capabilities
- End-to-end 5G network slicing performance and application testing
- Evaluation of the "5G overlay" architecture on existing 2G/3G/4G networks
Emmanuel Lugagne Delpon, SVP of Orange Group's OLN division, stated: "The 5G network rollout is crucial for Orange. We are excited to collaborate with ZTE on the 5G core network and standalone architecture. This partnership is designed to minimize disruption to our existing operations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, while fully demonstrating the advanced features of 5G, such as ultra-low latency and network slicing."
