HTC Vive Bao Yongzhe: From the game, VR will fully invade human life

The International Virtual Reality Innovation Conference recently kicked off at the Laoshan District Convention and Exhibition Center in Qingdao. The VR website (WeChat public number: VR platform) was honored as a special media partner. During the event, Bao Yongzhe, Senior Vice President of HTC Vive, delivered a compelling speech that provided valuable insights into the future of virtual reality. Bao began by expressing his excitement about being part of this prestigious gathering, marking his first visit to Qingdao. He emphasized that HTC Vive's mission is not just about hardware but about building a robust ecosystem. With China’s rapidly growing economy and digital market, he believes the country is set to become the fastest-growing and most commercially viable region for VR. HTC Vive has been actively expanding its presence in mainland China since 2015, organizing events like the Beijing Ecological Conference. Over the past year, the VR ecosystem has grown significantly, with more companies joining the movement. This growth reflects the increasing interest and investment in VR across various sectors, including games, startups, and technology innovation. From HTC Vive’s perspective, VR is a transformative technology capable of breaking through the limitations of time and space. Bao highlighted that the only real barrier to VR is human imagination. To support this vision, HTC focuses on four key areas: hardware, content, content platforms, and an accelerator program. In terms of hardware, HTC Vive remains one of the leading VR systems globally. The company is also collaborating with other tech giants like Apple and Intel to enhance user experience through external GPUs and wireless transmission solutions. On the content front, Vive Port offers a subscription-based model, allowing users to access a variety of VR applications each month. This approach encourages experimentation and helps developers refine their content. Additionally, Vive Port partners with offline experience stores in Asia Pacific, ensuring that content can be commercialized effectively. Beyond content creation, HTC works closely with game studios to optimize popular titles for VR. They also explore new formats, such as VR movies and educational experiences. For instance, they recently released a VR film titled "Amazon Jungle," which provides immersive learning about wildlife. Future collaborations include a VR adaptation of the movie "Player 1" with Warner Bros. In the arts sector, HTC launched a new initiative called Vive Arts, partnering with museums and artists worldwide. Through VR, they bring historical and cultural exhibits to life, offering unique experiences at institutions like the American News Museum, Nobel Museum, and the Royal Academy of Arts. Additionally, HTC is investing $10 million in an NGO project focused on environmental sustainability. This initiative aims to address global challenges related to climate change and biodiversity loss. Over 1,400 applications were received, and several projects will be developed further. Finally, HTC Vive X, their accelerator program, supports over 35 startups annually. With offices in Taipei, San Francisco, Beijing, Shenzhen, and now Tel Aviv, the program has helped many teams grow significantly. As Bao concluded, VR is no longer limited to gaming—it will soon impact every aspect of daily life, from work to education and beyond. He closed with a call to action, inviting developers to attend the upcoming Vive Developer Conference in Beijing. He expressed hope for continued collaboration and innovation in the VR space.
