The large-screen headset is a head-mounted display device specifically designed for high-quality video playback. Its standout feature is its ability to render a cinematic-sized screen, offering users an experience equivalent to sitting 15 meters away from a 1000-inch screen. According to the company, the screen's resolution and clarity are comparable to IMAX standards.
Unboxing the product reveals a sleek and well-designed package. Inside, you'll find the headset, remote control, custom anti-blue light lenses, data cables, and adjustable straps. The design is simple yet functional, focusing on comfort and ease of use.
The headset features a Sharp 4K screen with 24-bit RGB true color, paired with a dual-aspheric lens system that provides a 76-degree field of view—ideal for immersive movie watching. The lenses are also designed to reduce eye strain, making it comfortable to watch for extended periods. Additionally, the headset includes a light sensor that automatically turns off when not in use, saving power and enhancing user convenience.
Sea Whale has also addressed the issue of myopia, which is prevalent among Chinese users. The headset comes with two custom-tinted lenses that can be adjusted based on individual vision needs, solving the common problem of mismatched diopters in traditional VR devices.
The remote control is compact, resembling an iPhone 5 in size, and functions as a smart TV box with built-in 5000mAh battery. It supports voice input, making it easier to navigate content. The remote also includes USB ports, a TF card slot, and HDMI connectivity, allowing for versatile use with various devices.
The internal system, HiOS, is based on Android and offers features like voice assistants, smart recommendations, and over-the-air updates. The UI is designed to resemble a smart TV, making it intuitive for users accustomed to traditional television interfaces.
Content-wise, the headset offers access to a vast library of videos, including 200,000+ dramas, 10,000+ movies, 500+ 3D films, 1,000+ VR videos, and live streaming channels. It also supports 4K video playback at 60fps, along with 360° 3D content.
While the headset excels in movie-watching, its VR capabilities are somewhat limited due to the presence of black edges during VR playback. Still, the overall experience is impressive, especially for those who value high-resolution visuals and comfort.
In terms of battery life, the remote control lasts around 5 hours of continuous use, which is sufficient for several movies or TV episodes. However, for longer sessions, users may need to recharge.
Overall, the Sea Whale headset offers a unique blend of VR and smart TV features, providing an affordable alternative to traditional big screens. While it has some limitations, it stands out as one of the few products in China that successfully combines high-quality video playback with VR technology. With continued innovation, Sea Whale could play a significant role in shaping the future of immersive entertainment.
