AMD decided to do ARM processor!

AMD decided to do ARM processor! AMD made a shocking decision in the early morning today: AMD is going to be an ARM processor! AMD will design processors based on the 64-bit ARM architecture, beginning with the cloud and data center servers. This will make AMD the only manufacturer in the industry with both x86 and ARM architecture products.

In fact, in June this year, AMD has revealed that it will introduce the TrustZone hardware security technology based on the ARM Cortex-A5 architecture next year in the APU. At that time, we had always thought that it was mostly used on specific modules. We did not expect AMD to directly implement a pure ARM architecture processor.

According to the information given on the AMD website, AMD's first ARM processors are expected to come out in 2014 and continue to use the Opteron brand. This 64-bit multi-core SoC will be optimized for the most intensive, energy-efficient servers in the data center, providing a modern computing experience, and integrating the acquired SeaMicro Freedom supercomputing fiber optic interconnect technology.

As to whether or not ARM architecture will be introduced into desktop and notebook processors, AMD did not give a definitive answer, but said that ARM is regarded as a strategic partner and will continue to deepen cooperation with each other. At present, AMD’s move has been supported by Dell and Hewlett-Packard’s two major server vendors and server system vendor RadHat.
