This series is suitable for HID ballast applications such as general lighting, outdoor lighting and projectors. The new device integrates two high-end and two low-side gate drivers using IR's proprietary high-voltage integrated circuit (HVIC) technology. This helps improve device performance, meets tighter specifications, improves temperature stability, and integrates features not previously available. The IRS2453D has a simple RC network for oscillator programming that eliminates the need for two synchronous half-bridge drivers. Conversely, a solution using two SO-8 package driver ICs requires a separate oscillator to drive different half bridges. Blocking shutdown allows for different protection functions such as periodic overcurrent, open load or short circuit detection without the need for additional components; instead of latching shutdown, it provides more options for various microcontrollers for power management applications. The IRS2453D is a lead-free device in a 14-pin DIP and SO package that includes a 50% duty cycle, a fixed 1 microsecond (typical) internal dead time, and an integrated bootstrap circuit. The new ICs are designed for the low frequency AC voltage required to drive HID lamps and are also suitable for other high frequency applications such as fluorescent ballasts and power supplies.
