Foxconn enters AR advertising field and uses Sharp 4K screen

Hon Hai Precision Industry Group, people are more familiar with the name Foxconn. Foxconn is an Apple supplier and is also a supplier to many technology companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Xiaomi, Sony, and Microsoft. Both Hon Hai and Foxconn have huge engineering departments and produce hundreds of patent projects each year. Hon Hai is one of the leading companies in the field of industrial robots.

Earlier this year, Foxconn acquired the Japanese company Sharp, and is working hard to promote Sharp into the supply chain of Apple's future mobile phone OLED display. We recently learned that Foxconn and ARM will establish a joint chip design center in Shenzhen, and Apple has also created a new R&D center in Shenzhen. Today we also learned that Foxconn and Sharp are entering the augmented reality (AR) business area.

A few days ago, Foxconn Technology Group officially announced an augmented reality advertising project that uses a 4K high-resolution TV made by its Japanese subsidiary Sharp.

Taipei Railway Station is the main location of this new advertising project. Here, Lv Fangming, Executive Vice President of Foxconn made a presentation on augmented reality. In this exhibition, he himself realized real-time integration with the image.

Lu Fangming said, “In the past few years, Foxconn has been trying to integrate software and hardware services. Sharp is an industry leader in Japanese display manufacturing, and we will use the best display technology for the AR advertising business.”

He did not say what he expects from the scale of the business brought about by the VR project, but he expressed the hope that he will achieve a balance of payments by 2017.

Foxconn invested 50 million Taiwan dollars (about 10 million yuan) to establish a new company, Link OOH, to develop AR advertising business in Taiwan. Lu Fangming said that LinkOOH will use Sharp's high-definition television in its advertising business.

Earlier we reported that Apple is working on developing next-generation displays specifically designed for AR. It is also reported that TSMC is producing AR-related chips for Apple. Therefore, Apple and its suppliers are making efforts for the upcoming AR market. The AR market is in the form of displays and special chips that can be compatible with future Apple devices.
