The United States has developed integrated float glass substrates or assisted in the popularization of OLED lighting

PPG Industries has won the "Major Achievement Award" from the US Department of Energy (DOE) for its outstanding contribution to the development of OLED lighting technology. The PPG R&D team has successfully developed an integrated float glass substrate that uses scalable light extraction technology and a transparent conductive film for OLED lighting applications.

The project was launched by the US Department of Energy in 2010 for a two-year effort to promote the commercialization and mass production of OLED lighting. This new research has significant advantages in terms of cost and performance compared to traditional display-grade indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates. According to Dr. Dennis O'Shaughnessy, deputy director of research and development at PPG Flat Glass Division, PPG's light extraction technology can be combined with traditional float glass manufacturing processes to improve device efficiency.

Dr. Mehran Arbab, Director of Glass Science and Technology, added: “OLED lighting can achieve up to four times the brightness of incandescent bulbs per watt. This technology, once fully commercial, will significantly reduce the energy in homes, buildings and offices. Consumption."
