GT Advanced Technologies announced that it has acquired the vast majority of the business of Thermal Technology LLC with a consideration of approximately 3.4 million shares of GTAT common stock and operating performance awards.

The acquisition will bring a number of key products and technologies to GT, which will help GT to better provide new production equipment according to customer's specific needs and further expand into new market areas. These include annealing technology (which the company believes will play an important role in the production of sapphire screens), crystal growth techniques based on Kjeldahl (KY), and edged film feeding (EFG) for the production of large areas of sapphire. .
