The data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently showed that in 2013, the development of the flat panel display industry in China continued to improve. From 2014 to 2016, although the growth of the global flat panel display market will tend to be flattened, due to the shift of the global flat panel display industry's focus to China, the scale of China's industry will continue to grow rapidly, and the self-sufficiency rate of LCD panels will steadily increase.

Data shows that the trade deficit in the flat panel display industry in China continues to shrink. In 2013, China imported 49.58 billion U.S. dollars worth of LCD panels, exported 35.86 billion U.S. dollars, and suffered a trade deficit of 13.72 billion U.S. dollars, which was a sharp drop of 20.6 percent in 2012, a year-on-year decrease of 2.4 percent.

According to statistics, in 2013, the flat panel display industry represented by LCD panels in China reached 107 billion yuan, an increase of 44.6% year-on-year, and the global market share increased to 11.4%. The output of LCD panels was 20.88 million square meters, an increase of 27% over the same period of last year. The sales volume was 20.85 million square meters, and the entire industry achieved full-scale sales.

The introduction and application of new technologies in the flat panel display industry in China are also accelerating. The backbone enterprises have developed new products such as high resolution, low power consumption, and narrow borders, and have achieved mass production. The localization support capacity gradually formed. The self-sufficiency rate of local LCD TV panels exceeded 35%. The domestic backbone panel companies purchased local materials and equipment for more than RMB 15 billion, which led to nearly 100 upstream manufacturers. Experts said that in the future, with the development of the Internet of Things technology, the official issuance of 4G licenses and the vigorous promotion of the construction of “smart cities”, China’s flat panel display industry will also open up a larger market.
