AMD will open up new chip market

AMD, the world’s second-largest computer chip maker, announced on Monday afternoon that the company’s president and CEO, Medec, has resigned and withdrew from the board of directors. This news led AMD's share price to drop more than 4% in the US stock market trade on Monday. AMD said that the company’s chief financial officer, Thomas Seifert, will serve as an interim CEO and set up a committee to find new CEO candidates. AMD hopes that the new CEO will lead AMD to challenge Intel's position in the chip field and explore the chip market for new electronic products.

Medek played an important role in the transformation of AMD, leading the AMD Opteron processor into the lucrative server chip market in 2003, when the market was controlled by Intel. Not only won the recognition of many users, but also made AMD from an insignificant newcomers to become Intel's main competitors. AMD chairman Bruce Kravlin also said that through innovation, he helped AMD stabilize the situation and successfully resolve legal disputes with Intel.

Many people feel puzzled when Medek leaves this time. Some users stated that Medek has made a lot of credit for AMD. If AMD is forced to leave due to the poor performance of mobile chip market, it will cause some dislocation. Killing the taste of donkeys, "AMD will want to dominate the mobile chip market in one step?" AMD spokesperson said that this move has nothing to do with financial, technical and implementation issues.
